Small Group Questions : It would take a long time to learn how to get around if we lost the use of our eye sight, but it is possible as many people have done it. Losing our spiritual sight however is something that would affect us for eternity. The Bible says, "Thy word is a lamp to my feet and a light unto my path," and we should use it to make sure we don't lose our spiritual sight. 1. Who comes to mind from the Biblical accounts who lost their spiritual sight? 2. What ways does Satan use to try and "blind" us? 3. How might we train ourselves to focus on God?

Tough Jobs How many of us would readily volunteer to take on tough jobs? The word “tough” just doesn’t have an appealing aspect to us. We desire to do things that are not so difficult even though everything does not have to be easy either. Early in my military career, I was interviewed by a senior officer for a “Tough Job” program. That meant I would be getting the most difficult and challenging jobs as I progressed through my career. No, that did not sound very enticing to me, but I must admit, it turned out to be the best things for my life. I recently took on a landscaping project that certainly belongs to the tough jobs list. In doing the job, I discovered that enduring tough jobs is much easier when you have the desire to do them. A willing desire gives you the strength and determination needed to endure the hard work and sacrifice. God calls us to be servants in his “Tough Jobs” ministry doing Kingdom work. Paul writes to Timothy, “Indeed all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted” (2 Tim. 3:12). That sounds like being a Christian is a tough job, and one that, on the surface, does not seem very appealing to us. Here again, our desire to live for God and faithfully serve him gives us the strength and determination to endure the suffering that is sure to come. God gives us assurance we can make it because he will be with us. As he told Joshua, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; be not frightened, neither be dismayed; for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” (Josh. 1:9). Jesus tells us, “In the world you will have tribulations; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world” (Jn. 16:33). Just as I experienced in my military career, serving in God’s Tough Jobs ministry has a glorious benefit for our lives – a Crown of Righteousness, as we live eternally with our heavenly Father. Gordon
